About the Cancer Research Grant

Background and history

The Cancer Research Grants were established in 2007 to support and advance clinical research in the fields of Oncology. The program has been designed to promote excellence in medical research throughout Australia. It seeks to encourage and help develop the best of our young clinical researchers and extend Pfizer Australia’s already notable commitment and contribution to medicine and the health of our community.

The proposals should involve clinical research or translational research. Translational applications are required to describe how the outcomes from the proposed research project will potentially impact clinical practice, policy, or further research in cancer control.

Pfizer Australia will allocate up to AUD$300,000 per annum to this initiative as part of our continued commitment to cancer research.

This research grants program is open to medical graduates who are early in their research career, having commenced research, (or have returned to research after an appropriate break) within the last 5 years (e.g. the applicant has initiated or has been awarded a PhD/MD within the last 5 years). Individual grants will be available up to AUD$55,000 (including GST). Each grant is for a period of 12 months.

The principal applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia. Grant recipients must conduct the majority of the research within Australia.

All applications are reviewed initially by two independent expert referees. The final decision is then made by the Australian Physicians Independent Committee (APIC), composed of 9 leading specialists.

  1. You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
